It’s fucking hilarious how angry some people are getting that you laughed at Walt’s blowfish moment. At this point, Walt is struggling. He doesn’t feel in control. Skyler touches a raw nerve by pointing this out, and he responds by lashing out in a desperate attempt to convince her and himself that he’s pulling all the strings. There is something very wrong if you get this upset over your wife thinking that you’re not a murderer. Walt is scary, but he’s also pathetic and egotistical.

The angry part is also that jury duty had a reputation of being a deeply frustrating and undesirable place to be. For anyone who hasn't served on a jury, its a major disruption of your life. The selection process, the waiting, the questioning, and if you get to a trial can disrupt your life for weeks at a time. For these men, in what clearly looks like a big city for the 50s, they will likely have already been taken up no less than a week without pay from their day jobs already, probably longer.

I don't know if you realize but the things that landed in the beginning is the trash bag Mark threw at Ep 1. It landed on England.

This is an iconic American movie, one of the best ever in cinematic history. The movie came out in 1957 and the director Sydney Lumet claimed the jury was a microcosm of the United States' demographics. You'll note there are no women on the jury, nor are there any black jurors. It wasn't until 1957 that women were allowed to serve on federal juries; black people still didn't have the vote in many states and no attorney at that time would have wanted a black juror anyway. The movie was first a stage play easily done because of the one room setup of the jury room. Lumet wrote a book, "Making Movies" about all the decision choices he made when directing the film. Each chapter of the book deals with a different cinematic issue: the score, camera work, lighting, casting, set design, etc. The book is well worth reading if you want to understand the mindset of directors as practice their craft.

This show always puts me in a dream state. Was a pleasure to watch with you Arianna and Maple.

One of the greatest scripts ever written IMO.

The film is just 12 people in a room for almost the whole film, but it is absolutely brilliant. There are 3 things I especially love about this film: First, the relationship of the viewers to the film to the jury exactly resembles the relationship of the jurors to the case -- Aside from a brief look at the defendant, all we, the audience, know about the case is what the jurors tell us, so we, the audience become the jury of the jurors. Second, I love how the camera plays a subtle, but very active role in the film. During the racist rant, everyone backs away from the speaker -- even the camera. Third, the motivations of the jurors are all quite varied. Some want to do the right thing and some are just lazy -- it shows that the quality of justice that society has is the product of all the components that go into it. I'm so happy to see younger audiences watching this excellent classic. It's 2/3 of a century old, but still relevant today.
